What is the Honor Guard?
The mission of the Marine Corps League Honor Guard is to provide military honors during funeral ceremonies for honorably discharged Veterans from all branches of the United States Armed Forces. Currently, the Department of Defense only offers a rifle detail for retired military personnel and those who have passed while on active duty. However, many individuals, including us, believe that the dedicated service of Veterans, as well as active duty and reserve members, deserves the full spectrum of military honors. This is where honor guards, such as the Marine Corps League, play a vital role, enhancing the flag and bugle details during these solemn funeral ceremonies. On rare occasions, the Marine Corps League has even conducted the entire ceremony.
The military honors at a funeral ceremony serve not only to honor the deceased Veteran but also provide comfort to the family and friends mourning their loss. Moreover, these ceremonies remind the community of the importance and dignity associated with serving our country in the U.S. Armed Forces.
The Pikes Peak Detachment is prepared to offer a rifle honor guard for the traditional three-round volley upon request.
